OXYGEN THERAPY has been ordered if you are having problems breathing and/or have a low oxygen measurement in your blood.  Oxygen can help lessen sleeplessness, headaches, and irritability, and improve your daily activities.

OXYGEN PRESCRIPTION or liter flow is the amount of oxygen your healthcare provider has ordered and thus should only be used as directed.  Changes will directed by your healthcare provider/physician.

OXYGEN SAFETY is an important issue.  Following the steps below will help to optimize its use:

  1. DO NOT SMOKE near the equipment
  2. DO NOT APPROACH open flames, gas stoves, or other such devices when wearing oxygen.
  3. DO NOT USE Vaseline, oil or petroleum jelly around your nose or with any of the oxygen devices.
  4. Oxygen Tubing should not be placed under carpets, bed sheets, blankets etc.
  5. Cylinders should not be left in automobiles during hot summer months.
  6. Cylinders should always be in a stand when attached to a regulator to prevent tipping or falling.
  7. Full cylinders should be lying flat at all times unless in a stand.

OXYGEN EQUIPMENT is fairly standard from one supplier to the next.  You should be familiar with the use of your equipment as noted below:

CONCENTRATOR

  1. Operation, set-up- and cleaning
  2. Humidifiers
  3. Troubleshooting the equipment
  4. Checking liter flow
  5. Cleaning filters

PORTABLE UNIT

  2. Attaching Regulator and cannula

OXYGEN BACK-UP is available in case you should lose power or your concentrator malfunctions.  If this should occur, switch to your back up E Cylinder.  At 2 lpm this cylinder will last approximately 4.5 hours when full.  Notify Hometown Home Health, Inc. immediately.  If it is an after hours call the answering service will contact the on call technician/therapist.

AS ALWAYS, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL.  WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU.
