OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR

An oxygen concentrator is a machine which actually produces oxygen from normal room air.  Oxygen concentrators are very simple to use and with the proper care can be extremely reliable and helpful.

OPERATION

The main power switch is located on the face of the Oxygen Concentrator.  This switch turns the concentrator on and will begin the production of Oxygen.

The flow rate is adjusted by turning the adjustable knob.  The ball should fall in the center of the number that corresponds with your physician’s prescription.  DO NOT INCREASE OR DECREASE YOUR OXYGEN FLOW WITHOUT YOUR PHYSICIAN’S APPROVAL.

ALARMS

The Oxygen concentrator is equipped with two alarms.  Your installer will demonstrate both to you.  One alarm is a high/low pressure alarm and the other is a power failure alarm.

HIGH/LOW PRESSURE

If your concentrator’s high/low alarm sounds during normal operation, make sure that there are obstructions or kinks in the tubing.  Also, make sure that the humidifier (if used) is not obstructed.  If this doesn’t appear to be the problem call Hometown Home Health, Inc. immediately and switch over to your back up cylinder.

POWER FAILURE

The power failure alarm will sound anytime the power source has been lost to the concentrator while the unit is on.  If the power failure alarm sounds, check to make sure that the cord has not become unplugged first.  Check the outlet itself for power.  The circuit breaker on the face of the unit may have been activated for several reasons. Push the button (do not hold).  If the alarm continues, switch to your back up cylinder and call Hometown Home Health, Inc. immediately.

MAINTENANCE

Very little maintenance is required for your Oxygen Concentrator.  Wipe down the casing with a moistened cloth when the unit is turned off.  Regularly clean the air intake filters weekly if your unit has one.  Ensure that nothing blocks the air intake, such as drapery, furniture etc.

FILTERS

If your unit has an air intake external filter it should be cleaned weekly.  Remove the dirty filter and immediately replace it with the clean filter.  Wash the dirty filter with a mild detergent and warm water upon removal to allow for adequate drying time.  Never place a wet filter back on the concentrator.  If you notice that your filter is extremely dirty after the one week period, more frequent cleaning will be necessary.

AS ALWAYS, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL.  WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU.
